When dementia progresses to a later stage, it is known as Alzheimer’s disease. Gone are the days when nuts are considered unhealthy and we were asked to refrain from having nuts, as they were believed to increase cholesterol levels and fats. But recent studies have shown that nuts should, in fact, be made an integral part of the diet as they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and is a good source of healthy fats for vegetarians and vegans. You can have a fistful of them instead of chips and chocolates in between meals or cut them in slivers and sprinkle them as dessert toppings. You can also add them into your salads for a hearty meal. Badam ka sharbat or Badam Doodh used to be a staple in old Indian households as it is filling and was deemed highly nutritious. But sadly these recipes have lost with the bygone generations, as we are the healthy types.
Bringing up a child can be a daunting task, especially if the child has some behavioural disorders like ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). Parenting a child with ADHD can be overwhelming and challenging at the same time. But being a parent, there is a lot you can do to manage the symptoms of ADHD and help your child overcome the daily challenges of attention and learning. But contrary to what we think that a child with ADHD has problems only with concentration, in most cases parents complain that it gets difficult for them to teach their child healthy behavior. They may throw tantrums, be defiant and be quick to lash out irrespective of the surroundings and company around.
In India, suicide is very common and a shocking 1/3rd of the world’s female suicide and 1/4th of male suicide is from the nation. Compared with the suicide rate in 1990, India’s global share to the number of suicides is on a significant rise. Why is India’s suicide rate so high? What has gone wrong? Most people believe that fearfulness; cowardly attitude and stupidity are the main reasons why people commit suicide. This is very unfortunate! Suicide is not an easy choice, nobody wants to kill themselves. It is very easy to judge people but it is difficult to walk in their shoes. Have you ever thought what a person has gone through to choose to self-kill? They might have tried very hard to live in peace but have lost to the struggle.
Stress is one of the worst lifestyle diseases that adversely affect the mental health of a person. Juggling between work and family, it is almost certain for a person to get totally stressed out and that starts showing on his physical self gradually. Stress releases hormones like adrenaline and cortisol that is good at times as it keeps us alert and under pressure to overcome any situation and danger. But when it happens regularly, it can lead to chronic anxiety that gives rise to grave health issues. Don’t let stress overpower your good health.

A couple of years back, I was gifted a lovely romantic novel by my husband where the main female protagonist of the story suffers from Parkinson’s disease in her later life and cannot even recognize her husband who sits right in front of her reading her out a love story (which is apparently a personal account of their younger days). I was greatly moved by the happenings in the book and the plight of the protagonists. It is shocking and amusing at the same time to know how a neurological condition called Parkinson’s disease can mess with an individual’s life.
Today, we are going to talk about Parkinson’s disease and how to manage it effectively.
We don’t want to age, nobody wants to! What is aging defined as? Hair turning grey with wrinkles on the skin, health issues, immobility, and poor memory. Some of it is absolutely true and some of it is not. Aging does not necessarily mean that you will have so many diseases, be sick at all times and have a poor quality of life. If there are some negative changes in terms of your appearance, there are some positive changes too because you have all the time of the world to yourself. Enjoying life and making the most of it is the key to living healthily and gracefully.
