What is low blood pressure?
Low Blood Pressure is also called hypotension. This is not a very serious health condition unless the symptoms experienced get too uncomfortable. There are many people who suffer from low blood pressure but since there are hardly any serious symptoms, many cases do not get medically reported and it is not hyped like high blood pressure or hypertension.
Low blood pressure causes limited blood flow to the brain, heart and other vital organs. We experience such situation in our day to day life too when we try to get up after prolonged sitting or suddenly rise after lying down and feel a sudden bout of dizziness or light-headedness. This is known as postural hypotension.
Symptoms of Low Blood Pressure:
Occasional bouts of weakness and dizziness might be common owing to fatigue and sudden drop in blood pressure, but in case you notice these symptoms for a while without any improvement whatsoever, so consider visiting a doctor.
Here are a few unnatural symptoms if you have low blood pressure:
- Blurred vision
- Lack of concentration
- Cold, clammy and pale skin
Although low blood pressure is not a very serious condition, however, if not taken care of and treated it can lead to serious health conditions like stroke, heart attacks, shocks and kidney failures.
Here are a few home remedies to control low blood pressure:
1. Have salt
While in high blood pressure, salt is a complete no-no; in case you have low blood pressure, you must add at least a teaspoon of salt to your diet every day. Moderate amount of salt is very essential to maintain healthy body functions. After a workout out session, have a glass of limewater with a pinch of salt.
But never go overboard with salt as it may lead to water retention and increase blood pressure count.
2. Eat meals frequently in small portions
Keep munching on something or the other in case you have low blood pressure. Avoid long eating gaps as it may lead to a drop in blood pressure. Always keep a jar of healthy snacks ready like some granola, nuts or dry fruits.
Eat about 5-6 meals throughout the day.
3. Drink fluids
Dehydration is a very common cause of low blood pressure. You must drink a minimum of 2-3 liters of water daily. Coconut water, bael ka sharbat, and aam panna are very beneficial in low blood pressure. These drinks give you an adequate supply of the electrolytes that are needed to maintain fluid in the body. Besides, pomegranate juice rich in polyphenols also improves low blood pressure count.
4. Almond Milk
A glass of yummy Badam milk is a favorite of many. Soak a handful of almonds overnight and peel them to make a smooth paste. Boil them with milk. Drink this glass of nutrition-rich almond milk to prevent your blood pressure from falling. You can also add it to your cereals and granola for a wholesome meal.
This remedy for controlling low blood pressure count comes straight from my dadi ke nuske. My grandmother was a patient of low blood pressure. She used to soak a few deseeded munakka every night and have it in the morning after boiling them with milk. You can also top your breakfast cereals with it.
Our family physician had been really helpful when he recommended consuming 5-6 tulsi leaves every morning along with a few blood pressure medications. My dad had really benefitted from this natural remedy as it had increased his blood pressure count to a normal level.
