Conceiving naturally is getting difficult by the day. Due to the lifestyle changes and environmental reasons it is often found that the sperm count and quality in men get impaired making it difficult to conceive. It means spending huge bucks visiting infertility clinics and getting treatments done. Therefore, it is always better to go the natural way before spending on medical bills.
Let us first know some reasons that affect the Sperm Count:
- Drug/Alcohol abuse
- Prolonged sitting
- Emotional Stress/Depression
- Overheating of testicles from laptop usage
When is it said that the sperm count is low?
Semen is considered to be most fertile when it has over 15 million sperm per milliliter. Any of the above factors might interfere with its optimum production. However, there are many natural ways by which you can increase your sperm count.
Avoid wearing tight clothing
When your testicles get overheated, it might affect your sperm count and quality as well. Testicles should always maintain a cooler temperature as compared to the rest of the internal organs. Avoid doing these to keep your testicles cooler:
- Don’t wear tight jeans or pants
- Avoid wearing underwear when sleeping
- Prefer wearing cotton boxers over briefs
- Don’t indulge in frequent saunas and hot baths
- Don’t place laptops on your lap when working. Always use a table.
Exercise and sleep well
Studies have shown that obesity and lack of exercise have a negative effect on sperm count. Since exercise improves overall blood flow and circulation, it improves sperm count and boosts healthy sperm.
Sleep well for 7-8 hours to reduce your stress levels. Excess stress and anxiety affects healthy sperm production and also decreases sexual function. You can also practice yoga and meditation to calm down your mind and body.
Smoking is the root of many serious health conditions and it also affects your sperm count. A study has found out that smokers have a 22% reduced sperm count than men who don’t. Stop smoking at once if you wish to improve your sperm quality and quantity.
There are a number of foods that naturally boost your sperm count. Have dark chocolate, garlic, banana, broccoli, asparagus, walnuts, and ginseng. All these foods act as a protective shield to prevent sperm damage and increase their strength, motility, and volume.
Don’t eat foods that are soy-based like tofu, soy milk, soy sauce or soybean oil.
Fenugreek is a natural remedy that has been used since ages to improve sperm count. In recent times there have been many medical studies that proved the increased testosterone level and sperm count in men who consumed fenugreek supplements.
There are a number of fenugreek supplements available in the market.
Infertility has become a common problem these days across the world. Research shows that I out of every 6 couples get affected by it. But lifestyle changes and improved diet habits can improve male fertility issues.
